The S&P 500 was flat in midday trading at 2,786.90.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.5% at 25,204.58.

The Nasdaq climbed 0.6% to 7,604.64.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 0.1% to 2.89%.

The price of gold was 0.3% lower to $1,320.

MANUFACTURING

Bridgford Foods Corp. (Nasdaq: BRID) declined 11% to $18.11 and a $164 million market cap. On March 9 the Anaheim frozen and snack food company reported a first-quarter loss of $1.6 million, compared with a profit a year earlier. Still, shares are almost doubled from a year earlier.

FINTECH

Shiftpixy Inc. (Nasdaq: PIXY) in Irvine fell 12% to $4.07 and a $117 million market cap. On March 9, the shares had climbed 22% as volume was 19 million shares, 25 times the daily average, when the app-based temp worker provider said its working on technology to help business owners provide insurance for part-time workers. Todays volume was 1.7 million, about twice its daily average. Shares have almost doubled from $2.30 on March 1 on news that also includes the use of blockchain technology and expansion into Texas.
